Everything you need to know about traveling with infants (under 2 years) or children (ages 2 to 11).

REDUCED FARES

If your child is under 2 years old

Access to certain seats is resreved to families traveling with an infant until check-in opens. 

  • You can enjoy a 90% discount* if your infant travels on your lap.
  • If you prefer your child to have their own seat, you must purchase a child fare ticket (ages 2 and up) and secure your child in an approved car seat or with a certified harness. Please contact us to book their seat.
  • If your child turns 2 during your trip, the infant discount does not apply. The child rate applies to your entire booking. 
  • The purchase of a Seat option is the only way to guarantee a bassinet, subject to availability. 
  • Depending on your cabin, certain Seat Options may be available at a preferential rate of up to 50% off or, in some cases, at no additional cost. These benefits apply to all the passengers in your booking and can very depending on your selected route and cabin.

* For flights between Paris and Corsica, infants (aged 0-2 years) may travel on your lap free of charge.

Important: If you would like to travel in the La Première cabin with your infant, please contact us by telephone, as specific fares and conditions apply.

If your child is 2 years or older

  • When traveling with your child, you can enjoy a discount, if the fare allows, on your child's ticket: up to 20% on short-haul flights and up to 33% on medium-haul and long-haul flights.
  • To ensure a smooth travel experience, we seat children aged 2 to 11 next to their accompanying adult in a standard seat of the travel cabin you have selected.
  • To travel on seats that best match your comfort needs or preferred location in the cabin, you can also select a Seat Option for each family member at the time of your booking.

There are many places in the airport to change and nurse your baby. For older children, some terminals offer dedicated areas for them to play or relax before boarding the plane.

Your child is 2 years old or older

  • In the cabin and in the hold, they are entitled to the same amount of baggage as an adult, depending on their ticket price and cabin.

Your child is under 2 years old

  • If you have booked a seat for your child:
    • In the cabin and in the hold, they are entitled to the same amount of baggage as an adult, depending on their ticket price and cabin.
  • If your child is traveling on your lap, you may bring:
    • In the cabin: 1 hand baggage (max. 12 kg/26.4 lb, dimensions 55 x 35 × 25 cm/21.7 × 13.8 × 9.9 in)
    • In the hold:
      • 1 baggage (max. 10 kg/22 lb) for your child, unless the conditions of your ticket do not include checked baggage.
      • 1 stroller or rigid infant carrier with a backpack structure
      • 1 car seat

On board our long-haul flights, we can provide you with a bassinet, subject to availability and the specific aircraft configuration. Bassinets are designed for infants who weigh less than 10 kg/22 lbs and measure less than 70 cm/27 in. The bassinet must be stowed away in the event of turbulence. Changing tables are also available. For all cabins on long-haul flights*, your child will receive a baby comforter.

In the La Première, Business, and Premium cabins, the gift box also includes a pair of soft and comfortable socks designed to keep your baby’s feet warm during the flight.

If you would like your infant (under 2 years old) to travel in an individual seat, you must install him or her in an approved car seat or harness. A passenger may travel with 2 infants (under 2 years old) however the booking must be made by telephone. Additionally, 1 of the 2 infants must travel in an individual seat at a child fare and must be installed in an approved car seat or harness.

Please note: For safety reasons, any equipment designed for children to sleep horizontally (convertible bag that serves as a bed, inflatable mattress placed in front of the seat, etc.) are not permitted on board Air France aircraft.

Children's menu (2 to 6 years old)

Air France offers a meal tailored to the tastes and nutritional needs of young children.

The meal is fun and playful in presentation, pre-cut, and nutritionally balanced. Departing from Paris, the meal is prepared exclusively with 100% organic ingredients. The children's menu is automatiucally booked for children between 2 and 6 years old.

From the age of 7, an adult meal is served unless a children's meal is specifically requested. You can book this menu up to 24 hours before the departure of your flight.

Book a meal specially designed for your infant, up to 48 hours before your flight’s departure.

It includes savory and sweet purées, biscuits, and a dairy dessert — all carefully selected to meet your infant’s nutritional needs.

When departing from Paris, this meal is prepared using 100% organic ingredients.

On long-haul flights*, your child receives games and coloring books suited to his or her age. Your child can also enjoy our selection of kids' entertainment: cartoons, new movies for all ages and kids' radio stations. * The Air France long-haul network includes most intercontinental flights, notably those:

  • between metropolitan France and the Caribbean or the Indian Ocean,
  • between metropolitan France and the French overseas departments and territories,
  • between Europe and Asia, Oceania, Africa (not including North Africa), North or South America, or the Middle East .

Children and youth under 16 years of age traveling from the United Kingdom are exempt from paying the British Airport Tax (Air Passenger Duty). This exemption is automatic.

Accompanying passenger

  • Every child* must be accompanied by an independent adult who is at least 18 years of age. The accompanying adult may be under the age of 18 if he or she is the child's father, mother or legal guardian. The child and the accompanying passenger must travel in the same cabin. If it is not the case, the child is considered an unaccompanied minor (UM).

* Up to 12 years of age for flights within metropolitan France and flights to/from French overseas departments and territories, and up to 15 years of age for international flights.

  • An adult aged 18 and over may travel with a maximum of 12 minors :
    • under the age of 15  within our international network,
    • under the age of 12  within our Metropolitan and Overseas France network.

Travel tips

- Travel is not recommended for infants in the 7 days following birth. - Avoid travel if your infant is ill. - Bring enough bottles and food for the trip. - Please remember to bring the items you need for changing your infant (diapers, wipes, etc.). - Make sure your infant drinks amply during the trip. - Prior to departure, please remember to make sure you have all your child's documents required by the police, customs agents and immigration officers at your destination country. - If you are bringing a stroller on board, please remember to affix a label displaying your contact information (name, address, phone number and e-mail). - If your child is receiving medical treatment or suffers from travel sickness, please remember to bring his or her medical record and medications. - Choose comfortable and warm clothing (sweaters and socks). - During take-off and landing, give your child a piece of candy or chewing gum, or a pacifier, bottle, lollipop or cookie for infants, to reduce possible earaches.

Traveling with a stroller

In the hold:

Regardless of your ticket fare, you may carry free of charge:

  • 1 car seat
  • 1 stroller or framed baby carrier (backpack-style)

In the cabin:

  • Only fully foldable strollers may be accepted, subject to availability (such as the Yoyo by Stokke or similar models). 
  • Once folded, its dimensions cannot exceed 55 x 45 x 25 cm/ 21.7 x 17.7 x 9.8 in. 
  • The stroller replaces your child's hand baggage.
  • Strollers are not accepted in the cabin on board our Embraer aircraft operated by HOP!

Please note: You must fold your stroller prior to entering the aircraft. Strollers must be packed in a carrying case that covers the stroller fully. In addition, for security reasons, some airports may have to deny access to strollers inside the boarding areas.
